Tony and Karen appointed new managers at five star holiday park on the Shropshire/Powys border

A premier five star holiday park on the Shropshire/Powys border has welcomed new managers.

Tony and Karen Wharton are delighted to have taken the helm at the picturesque Seven Oaks Holiday Park at Crew Green, near Shrewsbury.

Previously in charge of a holiday park in Bala for ten years, the couple succeed Ron and Margaret Brace, who have retired after nine successful years at Seven Oaks.

Owned by Shrewsbury-based caravan and motorhome dealership Salop Leisure, Seven Oaks is set on the banks of the River Severn and offers spectacular views across the Shropshire countryside and Welsh Marches.

Karen said: “We decided to leave Bala at the end of last year and felt we maybe had one park left in us.

“We knew everybody at Salop Leisure as we had always bought our caravans from the company. We got a phone call asking if we would like to have a chat, so we were extremely happy to be offered this park and are really looking forward to the coming year.

“We have met a few of the caravan and lodge owners already. We sent our newsletter to them and they are happy with what we are planning for the year ahead. One gentleman even said ‘I’ve never been so excited to come back!’

“We are planning events on the last Saturday of each month, so that people can get together socially. Everything we do will be to raise money for a defibrillator that will be on the side of the park’s laundry. It will not only be good for the park but also the local community as well.”

The 35-acre park, which is particularly popular with owners from the West Midlands and North West, features two fishing lakes, as well as the opportunity for owners to fish on the park’s own stretch of the River Severn.

Its other facilities include a gymnasium and its own bowling green complete with pavilion. The park is also renowned as a wildlife haven.

The new managers, originally from Staffordshire, have already been putting their stamp on Seven Oaks, which opened for the new season last Friday.

Tony Bywater, chairman of Salop Leisure, added: “The park is looking absolutely beautiful and we are delighted that Tony and Karen are the new management team at Seven Oaks.

“We also wish Ron and Margaret every happiness in retirement after they did an excellent job at Seven Oaks for many years.”
